Happy Birthday Olivia

Yay, everything is right with my blog again, and I am so happy to be back at it!

It was a long haul, and it’s amazing how easy it is to mess up technology and how hard it is to fix it!  Maybe I’ll blog about it later, but today’s post is about my one and only (at least for now ;) beautifully lovely daughter, Olivia, on her 7th birthday.

You love bugs and the royal family, and hate broccoli tops and going to sleep!  You want to be a Veterinarian when you grow up, but only if your whole family will move to Saskatoon with you :)

music festival …. first year

I spent this morning with Olivia at the music festival for her first time playing the violin.  As I sat there is seemed like yesterday that I was waiting for my name to be called up for my first time to play the piano, I remember be so nervous!

She breezed through breakfast like it was any other morning, her upcoming song didn’t seemed to be on her mind at all, she was more concerned with her “accessories” for her outfit.  She was the first one up and sailed up there like a pro, announced her name and song title and played her song so well and even remembered to bow.  I couldn’t have been more proud of her.  If I thought I was nervous way back when it was my turn to play I had no idea it would be 10 X’s as hard to watch my own daughter be up there in front of an Adjudicator and audience.  She sat and waited for her turn to be adjudicated and even went back up when he wanted her to try her song again with a little tweak.

When she was finished she had received her silver sticker on her award, she was mostly concerned with whether the silver was real, “you know Mum, like the stuff they dig in the ground for…”  sorry no it unfortunately isn’t real… lol.  ”Well that’s OK, really I’m going to try for gold next year anyways….”

We decided we needed to go and celebrate with an early lunch and hot chocolate at the Gecko tree.

Great job Olivia, I am so proud of you!  You have accomplished something a lot of people never will do.  xo

puddle jumping….. 2012

I can’t believe an entire year has flown by since we were out here a year ago getting soaked!  Our driveway turns into a lake every spring for a couple of days and it’s always a fun way to spend an afternoon.

happy birthday Jacqueline ….

I can’t tell you how happy I was to be able to spend Jacqueline’s birthday with her this year!  I’m sure her last two years of glamourous parties and concerts in London were hard to top~ buuut I’m pretty sure our loud, messy, family dinner won out :)

The only thing that would have made this blog post better would have been if it was her 30th birthday on my 30th blog post…… but it’s not LOL  and I’m sure she’ll be mad that I added 2 years to her age!

I don’t think 28 has ever look quite this good!

A busy weekend …..

Well I am quite pleased with myself for staying on track for almost 30 days (I just had to count and I’m at day 26 already!) of blogging.  It’s not an easy thing for me (at least it wasn’t too start) writing freaks me out~ always has~ I get anxious and stressed when I have to write something.  It seems overwhelming for me so my defence is to just throw lots of big words in ridiculous run on sentences and hope something sticks!  I am amazed when people can so eloquently and smoothly write, I believe it is a real talent.  Along with struggling to find the words I am a terrible speller, fortunately I am very aware of that and over cautious to the point where I am constantly checking and double checking.

Photography is an ever evolving craft and that is a large part of what I love about it.  There are so many ways to learn, improve, network and better myself and I feel so strongly about being able to grow and continue to offer a better service and product for my clients.  I spent the better part of this weekend watching and interacting a 3-day online seminar, it was amazing and inspiring.  I am excited for the future of my business.

Here is a glimpse of one of my gorgeous wedding albums from one of 2011′s amazing wedding.  It is a handcrafted Italian leather (and by Italian I mean they actually build it in an Italian castle!) with a crystal acrylic cover that makes the front image a piece of artwork on its own.

When I am designing and working with the couple to put together their album, choosing album features that reflect the sprit of their wedding day, I can’t help but imagine the generations that will hold this album and flip through each page.  It is an investment that will be cherished for decades.

Oscar party 2012

I started to explain a little bit about my first annual Oscar party here, it was such a fun and glamourous evening!  My Mum said it best when she described it as her version of the Superbowl!

The rules for the evening were to come in pajamas, bring your favouirte $20 beauty item, and a tasty appetizer.

Cosmo’s were on tap, and a perfect all around drink!

Before the awards started everyone went around and shared their beauty gift.  I had to share my Mum demonstrating her product~ lol.

The Thursday before Jacqueline and I spent a fun evening making little take home gifts~ what’s a party with-out a goody bag!  We tackled the wild world of macaroons, and while a little finicky the weren’t nearly as hard as I had thought.

Luxe box 2

Here is a glimpse into February’s luxe box.  I love the red box, and my little name sticker always make me happy!  It was a little more sparse than last month, but I did get 4 items that I will use and really like so I am still enamoured.

a little bit about me ……

When I was creating my new website I really wanted my “about me” pages to give a clear idea of my personality and who I am so that clients would know pretty quickly if I would be the right fit for them!

I thought it would be fun to share a few more random bits….

1. Before I was a full-time photographer, I was an aesthetician~ super fun and exciting work.

I especially enjoyed the brides I got to work with and the wedding makeup I would do.  Funnily enough I was always a little sad when I was done and off the bride would go to the ceremony.  I felt like I was missing out on something…. it was how I knew that I would LOVE wedding photography~ being able to spend the entire exciting day capturing every well planned exciting detail!  Plus my makeup skills have come in handy a time or two ;)

2.  I hate spiders!  It’s even hard for me to type the word~ lol.  It is my biggest challenge as a Mum to remain calm and collected when the kids are around and I see one.  I am trying my hardest not to pass that gem of a trait along.

3.  The second bay of our garage has turn into my prop storage!  I am always on the lookout for a great new find, anything from blankets and chandeliers to vintage boxes and antique beds.  I am fortunate (although my husband may not agree) now that people even will call me with ideas, thoughts, and offers for items they have or have seen.

4.  I love mushroom soup, but have to strain out the mushrooms!

5.  My husband is the first and only guy I’ve ever asked out on a date, pretty good track record I think ;)

A blogpost just isn’t the same without a few photos, here are a few from our family session in the fall :)

orchid lime salad …..white water cookbook 3

My absolute favourite cookbooks are the Whitewater series (there are 3 in total), and if you’ve been to my house for dinner most likely I’ve made you a Whitewater meal!  I  have yet to find a recipe that wasn’t super tasty and delicious, and I love the beautiful photos through out.

This is the first recipe that I’ve tried out of the newest book “Whitewater Cooks with Friends” and of course it was amazing.

magical forest barbie tea party … part deux

Here is the second post for Olivia’s 6th birthday party :)

Check out more of the details here {CLICK}

I wish I had thought to video the girls running down to find their tea party in the forest!  They were so excited to round the corner and see their little magical tea party waiting for them.

This photo just makes me think of the song “the boys are back in town, the boys are back in town”

Dawson and his buddy Jax were so excited to be included and “allowed” to bring the girls water to wash their paint brushes in.

I am looking forward to planning Dawson’s fourth birthday party this year!  Today he told me he would like flags and cups at his party…. :)
