Lily ….newborn

I am really enjoying all the newborns I’ve been so fortunate to photograph lately!  Sweet little Lily was no exception and she is just so darn cute and such a great sleeper for being a little on the older side of the ideal newborn age.

baby J

I was so excited to meet this little guy, especially after taking his lovely sister’s newborn photos just a short 14 months ago!  He was such a laid back and relaxed baby, quite content to let me do my thing while keeping a close eye on me!

It didn’t take long though and he was off to la-la land!  What a teeny tiny rockstar he was, for the rest of his session.

I was thrilled to be able to capture few at the end of the session with his beautiful Mama!

Here’s a look back at his sister’s session just a little over a year ago {SESSION}

Brand new miracle …..

This wasn’t the blog I had planned for Monday, but after my amazing night I just had to share a little glimpse into it!

I was extremely honoured to be invited to photograph the birth of Eric and Crystal’s baby.  There aren’t enough words to describe how incredible it is to be at a birth~ such an amazing emotional roller coaster and one that never gets old :)

I will post this session again with more from the day long journey they had to get to this point, but in the mean time here are just a few snippets from my night…

and thank you Eric, for taking a shot of me with sweet little Aiden Gerald!

Lighting work

I have been so incredibly fortunate to become friends with some amazing photographers across Canada, it’s really quite surprising how small and close knit of an industry it is.  I have had the great fortune to meet in a few in person (and some I sure hope it’s not too much longer before we can connect).

One of the first people I meet in an online forum group was a fantastic newborn and maternity photographer from Vancouver, Ewa with Mamique Photography.  We have connected up over the years and both photographed predominantly natural light.  Between dreary Vancouver days and long winter months in the Cariboo, we decided we needed to work out a new lighting system that would allow us to photograph, any time of year, in any condition replicating the same beautiful result that natural light gives.

I spent a weekend in January photographing with Ewa in her beautiful studio.  We worked strictly with studio lighting and three adorable tiny models to practise, learn and tackle the lighting.  It is such a treat to be able to work with another photographer, there is nothing like bouncing ideas off someone who totally gets it :)

Here are the results from our day with three very cooperative adorable babies and strictly studio lighting!

baby cowgirl …newborn

The most predictable thing about newborn photography is that it will most definitely be unpredictable.  This little beauty was 4 weeks old which normally is too old for those great sleepy curly poses (ideally 5-10 days is perfect), well she slept for the first 5 minutes then was more than happy to keep an eye on me and see what was going on, thankfully we were able to get a few shots of her on her Mum’s beautiful new saddle then some great awake shots of her beautiful eyes.

***Please note that newborn safety is always the most important aspect of a session.  Often, shots are a composition of 2 or more images edited together and babies are never left unattended or unsupported.***
