photography workshop {self portrait}

This Thursday (tomorrow) I’m packing up and heading to a small island off the Vancouver coast to attend a very exciting photography weekend.  I really enjoy these weekends that I try to take at least two a year.  I feel it’s so important to always be continually pushing myself to improve, learn, and step outside of my comfort zone, and this weekend is going to be amazing!

In getting ready for this workshop we were given a couple of assignments to complete beforehand, the first was a self-portrait to introduce ourselves.  And while it should have been an easy task I found myself over analyzing and planning and really just plain procrastinating.  So finally last night in the rain, mosquito infested, ant hill ridden evening I quit over thinking and just got it done (I’m thinking this should be my new mantra!)

I know I could have done a better job in some ways, but I also know that I easily could have just not done it, come up with some lame excuse as to why I was too tired, busy, sick …..

So here is what I came up with.  My new favourite dress in one of my favourite locations.

After posting this and going back to delete my culled images, I thought “sure this is a nice photo, but really anyone can stand in a field and smile” so I went back and grabbed a few of the rejected images and hope they convey a better impression of who I believe I am.  The centre photo where I’m clearly disgusted by the ant hill I’ve just discovered I’ve stepped in and the top left where I’m apparently looking for alien life :)

I can’t wait to share this weekends experience with you!!  See you all next week :)

    Oh Leslie, I just LOVE these!! I’m so glad you included the ‘rejects’ because they made me laugh out loud – it’s you to a T!! The one of you discovering an ant hill is hilarious, but so is your laughing picture right next to it – it’s awesome! You look so happy and it’s just such a clear reflection of your personality. I just love them all and it makes me miss you a lot more!! Xo

    I can’t believe how clearly you captured all aspects of your personality. I too laughed out loud when I looked at the culled pictures!! An outing with you generally encompasses all of those expressions! The picture of you laughing is my absolute favourite…I can almost hear you!

    You’re my FAVOURITE!!! Ditto to everything JR said. These photos show everything I love about you: your quirky sense of humour, your real belly laughs, your fun sense of style, your killer gorgeous smile, your ever fabulous hair and your soft and caring nature. I’m so glad you shared these out takes :)
